“My life is very much like Monopoly.” ~ George Wade from ‘Two Weeks Notice’
Of course, George was probably talking about the old game of Monopoly…have you seen what they did to Monopoly? …But that’s another story.
My life is very much like “Harry Potter”. At times I feel like I’ve gotten on the Hogwart Express and can see glimpses of that wizard world that is so real to Harry and the other wizards, but so foreign to the world of the Muggles. Sorry, if I’m not using the right terms. I read the Harry series to explore the patterns…I’m not really a groupie.
My ‘alternate reality’ isn’t full of wizards and the “dark side”, which sells so many tickets and makes so much profit for the Hollywood set; I’m interested in what you might call social permaculture – the reality that exists if you catch the train that circumvents the industrialized culture: the industrialized food system that undermines the production of healthy food, the industrialized healthcare system that provides drugs for people after the food has made them sick, and the industrialized education system that molds our children into perpetual consumers who increasingly buy more and more with money that they don’t have…money that they may have someday depending upon how many hundreds of LinkedIn endorsements they can accumulate.
So what’s to be done…what’s the answer? I’ve been told that things aren’t going to change in our lifetime. The second part of that sentence is not articulated, just goes without saying: …we can’t do anything about it so why try? It’s just EASIER to do nothing and go with the status quo. Well, thankfully some of us aren’t getting on that train. We’re figuring out when to turn…
